Winding Willow: videographers fusing art and life

A good videographer adds a vibrant and dynamic dimension to the memories of your wedding day. Long after the cupcakes are gone and your wedding dress is safely packed away, the video will still bring back fresh joys and memories. Although recording equipment and postproduction software have come a long way in the past 20 years, it still takes special talent, intuition and drive to create a stellar videographer.

Winding Willow is a young team of dedicated media professionals. Although they're a full media production company (they also design print media, graphics and websites), we at Eco-Posh Events solely used their videography services.

When Erika mentioned Eco-Posh was having Winding Willow create a promo video for us, I wasn't sure what to expect from the experience. And after I awkwardly blurted out a few key words loosely disguised as semi-coherent sentences into a microphone, I certainly was not sure what to expect from the resulting recording.

However, from the moment Winding Willow's team of Christian Young, Ashley Lyon and Brandon Peoples showed up with their cameras and light boxes it was evident we were working with people who knew what they were doing. They worked effortlessly as a group, setting up their equipment swiftly and quietly while sending the camera shy (Brook and me) reassuring smiles.

But all that to say, the four minute video Winding Willow produced was utterly delightful. They were incredibly professional throughout the whole process - unobtrusive and smooth during filming and particular and focused during editing.

Not only does the video convey the sustainable message of Eco-Posh Events, it sparkles!

Get to know the Winding Willow team!

What's one of your favorite filming memories?

Ashley: There are so many that it is really hard to pick just one. I'd say it would be on the set of "Colored Sand." Things were going wrong and we were working to get back on our time schedule, when Christian saw a beautiful shot. We all took a moment just to take in the beauty of the shot and the story. It was breath taking that in the midst of chaos, we can still take a moment to enjoy something beautiful.

Why do you do what you do?

Ashley: I am a part of the Winding Willow team for two reasons. The first is that I love it. When you can go to a job and enjoy it, you know you have something really great. On top of that, I get to make a difference in the world. Together we can create pictures and stories that impact people. And that, to me, is what it is all about.

What's one of your favorite places to spend an extra $50?

Brandon: The best place in KC to spend $50 for a night is at a concert. Even though the biggest music scene in KC is underground metal there is something out there for everyone. Just drop into a venue and buy some merchandise from a local band. Check out The Beaumont Club on week days for the best local music in town.

What's one of your favorite filming memories?

Brandon: My favorite filming memory is probably cramping 5 people in a small room to film a bedroom scene and the crew trying to sync the set lights going out when the actor hit the light switch. All this without making noise to satisfy the sound guy.

Why do you do what you do?

Christian: I believe that videos and graphics have the power to impact people in a way that few other mediums have. Emotions and events can be summed up into powerful montages. Stories that might never have been told can be given life and beauty and brought to a larger audience to impact as many as possible. We want to be able to give those services to everyone. It's why we work every day to bring stories of the people around us to life through videos, graphics and websites so that maybe, just maybe those stories can reach out and help someone else.

What one of your favorite blogs/inspiration and a great place to spend $50?

Christian: Fab.com - They have awesome artists who make incredible pieces and then put them up for sale so that everyone can enjoy their work. It's a great place to go and get inspiration for set pieces or even for my own home. Plus if I have a little extra money I'm happy to get something from them and help out a fellow artist.
